Addiction counselling helps you change your perspectives on substance use to relieve your obsession with alcohol, cocaine, weed, or other drugs. Our addiction counsellors build on sober coaching by integrating a structured exploration of your past to help you understand connections to your addiction.

A Sober Companion provides 24/7 accountability and support in building new routines that are critical to sobriety. Our sober companions are certified recovery coaches who help you find stability during transitions, such as after leaving an addiction treatment center.

Addiction Expertise

Confidential Guidance From Understanding Professionals

It’s tough to understand addiction unless you’ve been there. We know what it’s like.

Alcoholism

Alcoholism is highly prevalent in our culture, and alcohol is the only drug we have to explain not using. Some people drink alone to cope with stress, some drink to socialize. Alcohol addiction exists on a spectrum of severity, and wherever you’re at, Clean Livin Addiction Counsellor can support you in changing your relationship with alcohol. Without addiction help, over time, alcoholism gets worse – not better.

Cocaine Addiction

Cocaine use in Edmonton is common, although it usually occurs behind a veil of secrecy. Keeping a cocaine addiction hidden from friends and family causes a lot of stress, and they usually know more than you think. Clean Livin Addiction Counsellor understands the pain of wanting to stop but not being able to. We can help you make lasting changes and move beyond cocaine addiction.

Weed Addiction

Since legalization, weed has become more accessible and culturally acceptable, and it can be difficult to find the line between recreational use and weed addiction. Unlike with higher-risk substances, a weed addiction usually won’t cause your life to fall apart overnight – it can feel more like “death by 1000 cuts.”  If you’re having trouble quitting weed, reach out for addiction help.

Sex and Pornography Addiction

Unwanted sexual behaviours and pornography use can feel impossible to stop on your own. We know these compulsions impact the brain’s executive control, just like a chemical dependency. You do not have to attempt recovery alone. We provide the mentorship and counselling you need to address sex addiction, restore your motivation, and rebuild trust with a partner.

Sobriety Journey - From Severe Substance Use Disorder to Recovery Coach

My drug and alcohol use started out socially in my teens. Drinking alcohol and smoking weed seemed “normal,” and at first, it was pretty fun. Then, problems started stacking up, and there were fewer good times. Before I knew it, I had legal problems, ruined many relationships, devastated my physical and mental health, lost my promising engineering career — and I was broke.

I tried to quit on my own dozens of times. I didn’t seek help until I lost nearly everything. When I hit “rock bottom”, I was finally ready to accept addiction help. I made getting sober my job. Along the way, I found my passion in helping others.

You don’t have to hit “rock bottom” the way I did. You don’t have to suffer alone for another day. Recovery isn’t boring – it’s about building a life you love to live. One so fulfilling, you wouldn’t want to dull it with substance use. That’s real freedom from addiction.

We offer you discrete, personalized addiction help. Reach out today for a free 15 minute consult call to learn more about our sober coaching, addiction counselling, or sober companion services.

Attending peer support groups is not a requirement when Clean Livin Addiction Counsellor works with you. Many of our clients get sober and stay sober without attending peer support groups. For others, recovery meetings provide community, accountability, and a framework for recovery.

At Clean Livin Addiction Counsellor, we believe the purpose of these recovery groups is to get your life back – not for them to become your life. We help you achieve freedom from addiction – and build community both inside and outside of recovery circles. We help you become the expert on your recovery. You may find this podcast useful “Can I live a Fulfilling Life Without the 12 Steps?” a conversation between Connor O’Reilly and Tommy Rosen.

Staying sober takes work, but it gets easier over time. Working with our Edmonton addiction counsellors or sobriety coaches makes getting sober and staying sober easier. Your needs are unique. But these general statements apply to most people:

  • If you put the same effort into your recovery that you put into substance use, you’ll reach your goals.
  • Sobriety probably won’t happen overnight. Did you become addicted to substances overnight? Getting sober is a process. Your path to sobriety will get easier over time and with support.

Clean Livin Addiction Counsellor can provide strategies and motivation for moderating your substance use, a component of harm reduction. Any change in your substance use is a big deal, and we support you.

Examples of online peer support groups include Recovery Dharma, Y12SR, LifeRing Secular Recovery, and Secular Alcoholics Anonymous. Peer support groups in Edmonton include SMART Recovery, Alcoholics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, and Marijuana Anonymous, which are also available online.

Peer support groups can provide community, accountability, and a framework for recovery. Committing to a peer support group and working on the group’s program earnestly will give you a foundation on which to base your sobriety. You may also make some sober friends. As you grow and become more comfortable in your sobriety, you will likely need less support from your recovery group. You may still choose to attend meetings because you like them. Some people feel they need long-term support from peer support groups, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
